Ok... 1st time posting... I'm here to prove Mr Lew(Or Yew?) wrong. Walau eh, that guy made me so worried sia... Go to your Maths file and take out the past year Maths paper 1. If your Maths file is in your locker, nevermind I post the whole question.
8. Factorise the following completely
(a) 7(x-2y) + a(2y-x)
(b) am+ 2an - 14bm - 28bn
So I did this:
(a) 7(x-2y) + a(2y-x)
-7(-x + 2y) + a (2y - x)
(2y - x)(-7 + a)
Mr Lew's ans: (7 - a)(x - 2y)
So what's the diff??? He say totally different T.T
Let's mix S.E.E. into this.
Statement: (2y - x)(-7 + a) is the same as (7 - a)(x - 2y)
Example: "(2y - x)(-7 + a) is the same as (7 - a)(x - 2y)," said Jia Boon.
Explanation: I think Mr Lew did this:
(a) 7(x-2y) + a(2y-x)
7(x - 2y) - a(-2y + x)
(x - 2y)(7 - a) [also same as (7 - a)(x - 2y), if you're so dumb you can't see]
Still not convinced? Nevermind, I show you.
(2y - x)(-7 + a)
-(-2y + x)(-7 + a)
(-2y + x)(7 - a)
So (x - 2y)(7 - a)
Still still not convinced? Nevermind, I show you again. I very patient one.
This time with (b), cause he also told me (-m - 2n)(14b - a) not = (m + 2n)(a - 14b)
My working:
(b) am+ 2an - 14bm - 28bn
a(m + 2n) + 14b(-m - 2n)
-a(-m -2n) + 14b(-m -2n)
(-m - 2n)(14b - a)
I think Mr Lew's working:
(b) am+ 2an - 14bm - 28bn
a(m + 2n) + 14b(-m - 2n)
a(m + 2n) - 14b(m + 2n)
(m + 2n)(a - 14b)
So? Still still still not convinced? Nevermind, I show you again again.
(-m - 2n)(14b - a)
-(m+2n)(14b - a)
